The 2016 Rose City Astronomers Calendar

In Autumn of 2015, the Rose City Astronomers asked me to design a custom 12-month calendar for 2016. The proceeds from the sale of the calendar are just one way RCA raises money to sustain the club and its efforts. The club has over 400 enthusiastic members and they often partner with OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry) to serve the Portland area in educating youth and adults in all things astronomy.

Club members submitted 26 incredible photos of night sky and RCA events, and I used them to decorate the pages of the calendar. Each photo is credited with the photographer’s name and event title, with the main photos including equipment used to capture the image, which serves to educate interested readers on how they, too, can participate in amateur astroimaging. I also created custom icons for specific events such as planetary oppositions and meteor showers.

The 2016 RCA calendar was very well received — I still receive compliments! Yay!

OBJECTIVE

To create an image-rich, information-packed beautiful calendar featuring RCA events and member contributions, with the goal of raising money for the club.
